Artist biography

A highly skilled artist in oil, watercolour and pastel. Gordon Hales was born in Matlock, Derbyshire and studied at Leicester College of Art and Northampton School of Art. His favourite subjects were “ships and the sea, the Thames, men at work, the streets of London, the half-light”.

He was a member of the RSMA, an Associate of the RBA, a member of the Langham Sketch Club, Wapping Group of Artists, the Artists’ Society and a founder-member of the London Muster of Artists. He lived and worked for most of his life in Watford, Hertfordshire.
