Notes

Grade II-listed Temple of Aeolus. Designed by Sir William Chambers, it was first built in the 1760s to Aeolus, the ruler of the winds in Greek mythology. The current version was rebuilt in stone in 1845 by Decimus Burton and offers views northwest across the surrounding woodland .
1763. Sir William Chambers. The existing temple is a replacement in 1845 by Decimus Burton of "the decaying temple of Aeolus ... by a very chaste structure of similar kind, in stone, from the original design of Sir William Chambers. (History of the Kings Works Vol VI, p.441.)
