Notes

Porticciolo is the harbour of the Cagnano Valley. Unlike its neighbors of Sisco and Pietracorbara, the marina of Porticciolo is of very old construction. It presents a set of authentic character, with houses with slate roofs, grouped together for security reasons at the time. Porticciolo once housed a small shipyard from which many sailboats left until 1873. At that time, Cagnano traded with Italy and the other ports of the Cape, and had several stores(warehouses). The fishermen were still ten in number for eight boats around 1960. Nowadays, there is only one left. It is an ideal village to spend a few hours of tranquility and relaxation by the sea. The small village, bathed by a sea with a transparent bottom, is an oasis of tranquility, simplicity and harmony.

The marina of Porticciolo is a very small village that you can easily explore on foot. Don't stay up at the side of the road and take one of the stairs or a lane down to the harbor and you'll be in the heart of the village with the best views.

Porticciolo beach is a little further, even further north, you can walk there in 15-20 minutes or take your vehicle: you will then have to park along the road. It is a large beach with turquoise sea and white sand, but which is invaded by benches of Posidonia (not always appreciated by everyone, although very useful to the ecosystem). It is not very busy (even in the middle of August) and has a straw hut in the southernmost area: this is the most pleasant area where there is the least Posidonia. To the north of the beach, you will find kayak and paddleboard rentals.

The marine Porticciolo has a very old construction, including a/and has a particularly authentic character, with houses with roofs of lauzes. In the old days, Porticciolo had a small shipbuilding yard from which many sailboats came out until 1873. At that time, Cagnano traded with Italy and the other ports of Cape Town. In the hamlet of Piazze, the most populous of Cagnano, you can visit the beautiful Sant' Erasmu chapel.
